Farmer Highlight: Matt and Kayla Boeve of G&A Farms

Family, Tradition, and Technology: How Matt and Kayla Boeve Keep G&A Farms Thriving in Steen, Minnesota

Meet Matt and Kayla Boeve, third-generation farmers and owners of G&A Farms Incorporated in Steen, Minnesota. Their farm, which started with Matt’s grandfather in the 1950s, has steadily grown to 3,000 acres, primarily in a corn-soybean rotation, with around 2,000 acres dedicated to corn and 1,000 to soybeans. Alongside crop farming, they run a 2,500-head cattle feedlot where they raise and finish beef cattle—a family tradition they’re proud to carry on.

For years, the Boeves have worked with New Vision’s agronomist Dave Leenerdts, who provides guidance on everything from seed selection to soil health. “Dave knows our ground,” Matt says. “He handles it all, so we can focus on other things, whether it's the cattle or our kids.” Dave’s support is unwavering—he’s there in the early mornings, loading seed and fertilizer, and he’s only a call away whenever they need him. This peace of mind is something Matt and Kayla value immensely, freeing them up to focus on other aspects of their lives.

One of the Boeves’ favorite parts of farming is the variety each day brings, whether it’s working with cattle, harvesting crops, or managing seasonal tasks like snow removal. It’s not always easy, especially when so much depends on the weather, but the lifestyle is fulfilling. "At the end of the day, it's worth it," Matt reflects, especially when their four children can be part of the daily work, moving bales, helping with the horses, and learning the value of hard work.

The Boeves have also embraced technology to streamline their operations. They utilize grain cart-combine sync technology that allows Matt to control the grain cart from his combine, saving time and reducing stress. From GPS to soil health sampling, they recognize that advancements in farming tech are “a good tool in the toolbox,” making a lasting impact on their efficiency and helping them stay proactive in a rapidly evolving industry.

For Matt and Kayla, farming is not just a career but a way of life they hope to continue for many years, growing alongside trusted partners like New Vision. "They have the capacity and know-how to support any size operation, and they've grown with us," Matt shares. With a deep connection to their land and community, the Boeves look forward to many more seasons on the farm, wherever the future may lead.
