Grain Entrapment Rescue Demonstration
August 20 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
We are happy to be able to partner with the Slayton Fire Department, the Murray County Fair and the SW Regional Fire Department Association to provide a public training demonstration on a grain bin entrapment rescue at the Murray County Fair on August 20th.
Using a simulated grain bin engulfment, rescue techniques will be demonstrated to safety retrieve a victim from grain engulfment. Attendees will be able to witness best practice prevention strategies to avoid entrapment or other injury when working around grain bins and how to respond if faced with a grain engulfment situation.
There have been several recent incidents throughout Minnesota of grain entrapment, not all of them ended well and were devastating to the families and rescuers involved.
We want to do our part to help local fire departments and rescue teams get a chance to practice and learn what a entrapment situation is like. The demonstration will be open to the public to view and watch.
In addition, starting at 2pm, we will have a small scale bin and gravity wagon to show how quickly a person can become entrapped. Moving grain is akin to quicksand. You can be caught knee-deep in its suction within four seconds. Self-escape from grain entrapment is impossible at this point.
Let that sink in – four seconds before you can’t save yourself.
Please join us on Saturday at 2:30pm to learn, listen and most importantly thank all of our local personnel for what they do for all of our communities! STAY SAFE!
